Simple Guide to Killing Carpet Moths

Important Safety and Preparation

Avoid Liquids Near Electricity: Never spray liquids directly on electrical items (plug sockets, cables, etc.). You can use insecticidal powder safely around these areas.

Follow Packaging Instructions: Always read and follow the directions on the product packaging.

Clear the Room: Remove all people, pets (including fish), and any other unprotected items from the room. Vacuum the entire carpet thoroughly before starting.

Treatment Steps

Apply Powder First:

Sprinkle Formula ‘P’ Powder on the affected areas and along the edges of the room.

Let the powder sit for at least 30 minutes.

Vacuum up the powder carefully.

(If you choose to apply the powder after the spray on dry surfaces, be extra cautious if you have young children or pets, as the powder might be disturbed.)

Spray the Carpet:

After vacuuming the powder, spray Formula ‘C’ onto the affected areas. If the infestation is widespread, spray the entire carpet.

Move heavy furniture to get access underneath, and apply extra spray along the room edges (about 50cm from the walls) to cover the carpet edges without having to lift it.

Note: Formula ‘C’ leaves an invisible, residual film. Try not to clean or vacuum these surfaces for a while after spraying, or you may need to reapply.

For Discarded Carpets:

If you are planning to discard a carpet, spray it liberally with Formula ‘C’. For moderate to heavy infestations, you might need to repeat the spray.

Activate the Fogger:

Place the Formula ‘P’ Fogger in the centre of the room.

Activate it by pressing down on the trigger while holding the canister away from you.

The fogger will release its gas in about 90 seconds and is designed to treat rooms roughly 4m x 4m.

Wait and Ventilate:

Close the room for 2–3 hours to allow surfaces to dry and the gas to clear.

When re-entering, if possible, open a window to help vent out any fumes and speed up drying.

Monitor with Moth Traps:

Place a moth trap in the treated room. Fold the trap into a Toblerone shape and insert a pheromone pad (sticky side out).

Replace the pheromone pad every 4–6 weeks to continue monitoring moth activity.

Repeat if Needed:

Depending on how severe the infestation is, you may need to treat the area again after about 30 days.

Dispose of Products Safely:

Once you’re done using the products, dispose of them according to the instructions on the packaging.
